Healthy Turkey Shepherd's Pie Recipe by The Mediocre Cook"

Are you a busy person who loves the taste of homemade tortillas but doesn’t have the time or energy to make them from scratch? Look no further! In this blog post, I’ll share with you my adapted recipe for oat tortillas that requires minimal effort and time. With just a few simple ingredients and basic kitchen tools, you can enjoy delicious gluten free tortillas. Keep reading to learn how to make them!

How to Make these Gluten Free Tortillas

To make these lazy girl oat tortillas, you’ll need some rolled oats, water, salt, and a non-stick electric griddle. You’ll begin by preheating your griddle to 350 degrees. Make sure to leave some room on your countertop for your blender!

Next, add 1 3/4 cups of water, 1 cup of gluten free rolled oats and a pinch of salt to a blender. I like to use Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Organic Oats for this recipe. Blend on high for about 3 minutes, or until all the chunks are gone. Once you have a nice smooth batter, you’ve blended long enough. One time I didn’t blend long enough and while it didn’t ruin dinner, it just didn’t turn out as well.

Now it’s time to cook the tortillas. Pour your batter over the preheated griddle, in the shape of a rectangle. Next set your timer for 20 minutes and carry on with making the rest of your meal. I recommend pairing these with my tuna salad recipe!

Once the tortilla has cooked for 20 minutes, use a spatula to cut four even strips of tortilla. After you have the four sections cut, flip them over and cook another 10-15 minutes. Again, you can go hang out on the couch, finish cooking your dinner or whatever. These really won’t burn as long as your griddle is truly non-stick. I love making them this way because I can put them on to cook and carry on with other stuff.

After 10-15 minutes has passed, get out a cooling rack and put your tortillas on there to cool for about 5 minutes before eating. Allowing them to cool will ensure they don’t get soggy! After 5 minutes is up, you can serve them and enjoy!

As you can see, these gluten free tortillas are incredibly versatile and can be used in a variety of dishes. So, if you’re looking for a quick way to enjoy homemade tortillas, give these lazy girl oat tortillas a try!

How I Discovered These Gluten Free Tortillas

When I first stumbled upon oat tortillas, I was browsing through Google and came across The Nessy Kitchen’s website. Their Oat Tortillas recipe caught my attention, and I decided to give it a try. I absolutely loved how they turned out – soft, flavorful, and gluten-free… all the things I love! However, I soon realized that the original recipe didn’t quite fit my lifestyle.

As someone with multiple chronic illnesses, I needed an easier way to make these delicious tortillas without compromising on taste and health benefits. So, I started experimenting in the kitchen, making adaptations to the original recipe to suit my needs. The result? Lazy Girl Oat Tortillas – a time-saving version that still delivers on taste and nutrition!

After numerous trials and errors, I discovered a few key tweaks that transformed the original recipe into a more convenient option for me. The biggest adaption was deciding to use a griddle instead of a pan. However, I found that when I did this I needed much less water. That’s when I started slowly reducing the amount of water in the recipe. As a finishing touch, I decided a pinch of salt would enhance the flavors, so I went for it.

Using a griddle instead of a skilled required less oil and resulted in a quicker cooking time. This change allowed me to make a batch of tortillas in just under 30 minutes! Perfect for those days when I needed a speedy yet nutritious meal.

These Lazy Girl Oat Tortillas have become a staple in my kitchen, offering a versatile base for a variety of fillings and toppings. Whether I’m in the mood for a classic taco, a hearty breakfast burrito, or a flavorful wrap, these tortillas never disappoint. They are not only gluten-free but also packed with fiber, protein, and essential nutrients, making them a healthier alternative to store-bought options.

While these adapted oat tortillas may not have the exact same texture as the original recipe, they are still incredibly tasty and versatile. Think of them as a cross between a tortilla, a flatbread, and a wrap – perfect for all your favorite fillings! So, if you’re looking for a delicious and convenient way to enjoy homemade tortillas, give these gluten free tortillas a try. With their simplicity and nutritional benefits, they are sure to become a favorite in your household as well!

How to Store Oat Tortillas

One of the best things about these lazy girl oat tortillas is that you can make a batch in advance and store them in an airtight container or freezer bag for later use. They can be refrigerated for up to three days or frozen for longer storage. Simply reheat them in a toaster, oven, or microwave when you’re ready to enjoy them.

Ways to Eat Oat Tortillas

There are many ways to eat oat tortillas. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic wrap with fresh veggies and grilled chicken, or a flavorful flatbread with hummus and roasted vegetables, these gluten free tortillas will not disappoint. They may be slightly less flexible than traditional tortillas, but they still get the job done and add a unique flavor to your meals.

But let’s not limit our imagination to just savory fillings. These tortillas can also be used as a base for sweet treats. Spread some Nutella or peanut butter on them, add sliced bananas or strawberries, and roll them up for a delicious and healthy dessert option. The nuttiness of the oats pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the toppings, creating a satisfying treat that won’t leave you feeling guilty.

As you can see, these tortillas are very versatile and the possibilities are endless. So, if you’re a busy individual with limited time for cooking but still want to prioritize your health and enjoy delicious gluten-free tortillas, give this recipe a try. You won’t be disappointed!

Remember, cooking should be a fun and enjoyable experience, and finding shortcuts that work for you is perfectly fine. Embrace your inner lazy girl (or guy) and whip up these quick and easy oat tortillas whenever you’re in need of a wholesome and satisfying meal.
