What You Need to Make Oat Milk

Ingredients for Organic Gluten Free Homemade Oat Milk Recipe by The Mediocre Cook

How to Make this Healthy Milk Alternative

To start, you’ll need some organic, gluten-free old fashioned rolled oats. These oats are a great choice as they are not only packed with nutrients but also have a wonderful texture that will give your oat milk a creamy consistency. One thing to note is that these oats can be a harder to find so shopping online may be best. In fact, I usually get mine from Amazon. Though they are harder to find, it’s well worth it to choose organic and gluten-free!

After you get out your oats and measure out your water, you’ll you need to do is soak the oats in 1 cup of water for about 5 minutes to soften them up. Next, blend them until you get a smooth and creamy mixture. Following this step, I like to give the milk a taste! You can add a pinch of salt or a sweetener of your choice, like maple syrup or dates, to enhance the flavor.

Once your oat milk is ready, strain it through a mesh strainer or a nut milk bag to remove any remaining solids. Lastly, I like to add another cup of water in to make it less creamy. However, do what suits your preference!
